Mine sites can have significant effects on local environments like physical disruption of land forms and ecosystems. Mine site rehabilitation should return sites to conditions where land forms; soils, hydrology, and biodiversity are self-sustaining and compatible with surrounding land uses. Restoring mining site must undergo numerous steps such as: soil and water management, landscape maintenance and design, rebuilding ecosystems, diversity management and conservation. The key physical restraints of mine rehabilitation are considered to be: climate, size, soil/rock types and the physical and chemical properties of the land. This project aim to show what can be achieved and how some landscapes can actually be improved as a result of mining activity, by studying the ecological connections between biodiversity and habitat conditions (humidity and temperature) and understanding species environmental optimal, for improving site reclamation.
