Transportable Biodiversity Centers Creation in Zheltokamenka Quarry

The project focuses on the biodiversity development promotion through endangered plant communities creation, which could be transferred along with the quarry mining front. Unlike other possibilities to plant steppe vegetation, we propose to create single communities as a variety of rare and endangered steppe plants in artificial sockets with a good permeability. Using the sockets installed in the ground we are able to create a rare plant community in any place on the territory of quarry.

It is even more crucial that we create a community of strong steppe formation, which could exist on the limestone and clay soils. It wouldn't be just a planting, but rather a creation of ecosystem (plants, supporting mezofauna and micro biota). This way we create the specific cenosis environment, which supports the growth and distribution of the plants to mined areas. In 2-3 years after the plants are distributed to surrounding areas, the biodiversity center could be moved to another place to start the new revival process at a new place. Installation of the centers in the 'right' places could create biodiversity development areas, which would follow the mining front to its final position.

Этот проект направлен на активизацию развития биоразнообразия путем создания редких и охраняемых растительных сообществ, которые можно переносить вместе с карьерным фронтом добычи полезных ископаемых. В отличие от подобных вариантов создания искусственных насаждений степных видов растений мы предлагаем формировать единые сообщества из разнообразных редких и охраняемых степных видов в искусственных емкостях с хорошей проницаемостью. Используя такие емкости, установленные в субстрате, мы можем создать редкое растительное сообщество практически в любом уголке карьера.

Более важным является то, что мы создаем мощную степную формацию, которая может существовать на известняковых и суглинистых почвах. Мы планируем осуществить не просто обычную посадку, а скорее создание экосистемы (растения, сопутствующая мезофауна и микробиота). Таким образом мы создаем специфическую ценотическую среду, которая поддерживает развитие и распространение растений на нарушенных горными работами землях. Установка центров в «правильных» местах может создать зоны распространения биоразнообразия, которые будут перемещаться вслед за фронтом разработки полезных ископаемых до предельного контура.
