The impacts of quarrying on biodiversity: setting the basis for assessment at Akosombo quarry

Scientific research

The project primarily seeks to develop a biodiversity monitoring framework (BMF) to enable the scientific assessment of the impacts of quarrying on biodiversity. Such a framework is necessary in that it is generally believed that quarrying has only negative impacts on the environment. Recent research seems to suggest otherwise, hence a framework of this nature would be valuable in assessing the impacts. While providing information to influence future rehabilitation works.

Baseline data on the avifauna (birds), the herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians), the insects, the mammals (small and large) as well as the floral composition of the site would be gathered. This information would be used to develop the biodiversity monitoring framework. Because production is yet to start Akosombo is most ideal and would further enable us to develop on site biodiversity management plan.

Join us on this incredible journey of discovery of the amazing fauna and flora of Akosombo, and we hope you will vote for our project. Remember BIODIVERSITY IS LIFE.
