Restoring biodiversity and sustainability of ecosystem of quarry with the help of useful species of

Biodiversity management
Species research
Rehabilitation & habitat research

Limestone and clay are extracted In Zhovtokam'yanskomu quarry. Obviously such activities reduce the number of species - representatives of quarry’s biodiversity and the reduction of the number of each species. The high species richness is one of the basic conditions for environmental sustainability of the ecosystem. Since each species in the ecosystem performs a specific ecological function, it is necessary to restore the level of biodiversity, to provide stability of biogeocoenose.

The problem of depletion of biodiversity primarily related to the loss of species’ habitats. Therefore, within this quarry arises a problem of conditions’ recovery for species’ existence that caught endangered or have already disappeared. To solve this problem we are going to make efforts to restore habitats, such as restoration of soil properties of the quarry by settling specific to the area insects geobiont, vermibiota etc.. After restoring the fertile properties of soil a new plant species will start germinating, fauna representatives will start settling and together it will help to restore biotic potential of these territories.

For this purpose firstly it is necessary to investigate and catalog quarry’s entomofauna, to define the specific species, to analyze the literature to determine the particular entomofauna’s species of the area, to develop a method of catching and possibly breeding for further colonization of beneficial entomofauna’s species.
