Recognition and minimalisation of factors negatively affecting birds of KSM Rakowice Reservoir

In the area of ​​KSM Rakowice, there is a large water reservoir in the Bóbr river valley. The area is diverse in terms of habitats - willow thickets, sand slopes and gravel islands all can be found there. This makes the reservoir a nesting site for many birds, including wetland and shore species, currently classified as most endangered by progressive climate change. There are no current data on the species present in the area - the last inventory of the reservoir's avifauna took place in 2006. Therefore, the data collected in the project will be particularly valuable. The observations carried out so far show that there are at least a dozen species listed in Annex I of the Birds Directive in this area, f. e. White-tailed Sea-eagle, Osprey, Kingfisher, White Stork, Marsh Harrier, Red-backed Shrike, Whooper Swan, Great Egret, Black-throated Diver, Little Gull, Red Kite, Black Kite, Black-crowned Night Heron, Little Gull, Barred Warbler, Ruff, Wood Sandpiper, Black Tern, Little Tern and Common Tern. Some of them are breeding in the reservoir. Every year gulls, Little Ringed Plovers and Common Terns nest on the islands. However, they are getting flooded and the broods are destroyed each year.
