Quarry Microbiome Observatory

Biodiversity management
Rehabilitation & habitat research

Quarry Microbiome Observatory is a project that shows the importance of microbiological communities in environmental processes, underlining it role in restoration of degraded lands. Each ecosystem has a microbial community, which is the base of net of all the interactions between living beings. Thus, studying microbial community we know about ecological processes, considering that it responds finely to variations on physiochemical and biotic parameters, even to seasonality.

Using Next Generation Sequencing technics (NGS) we will describe microbial groups present in golf field lake, sited on Áridos Sanz Quarry, studying both Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. Additionally we will get data about physiochemical lake parameters, land uses and social interests. All information we will collect will be used to resolve eutrophication problems that golf field lake suffers, looking for best procedures in the line of ecological restoration processes.
