Plant stress evaluation of the quarry vegetation buffer zone and the assessment of its rehabilitation

Scientific research
Pinus sylvestris, plant surviving on quarry edges, plant for rehabilitation

The objectives of this research are:

- to carry out the determination and inventory of existing plant species in the most vulnerable area (about 20m from the quarry), and an inventory of plant species in plant successional stage within the abandoned quarry area.

- to analyze the morphological and physiological properties of some plant species both on the excavated quarry edges and the buffer area (leaf morphology, concentration and relationship of chloroplast pigments, stress enzyme content, etc.).

- to establish the existence of possible correlations between the obtained results and the adaptability of plants to depredated habitat conditions

During our second visit to the quarry three different sites for material collection were selected. Chlorophyll concentration readings were recorded. Preliminary check list of autochthonic tree vegetation was made. Observations regarding cultivation and check list of cultivated tree species were also made.
